We are not a law firm

Portable Lawyer is operated by Nth Collective Limited, which is not a law firm and is not regulated as one. Nobody on this site is acting as your lawyer. No lawyer–client relationship, no duty of confidentiality, and no professional privilege arises from reading this site, asking a question, or uploading a document.

We do not represent anyone in any proceeding, we do not file anything on anyone's behalf, and we cannot appear for you anywhere.

The AI can be wrong

Some parts of this site use a large language model to turn your question into an answer. AI systems make mistakes. In particular, they can:

• state a rule that is not in the text we gave them, or summarise it inaccurately;
• miss the provision that actually applies to your situation;
• be out of date, because constitutions are amended and the index is updated by hand;
• sound confident while being wrong — fluency is not accuracy.

Our AI answers are instructed to quote the passages they are based on, precisely so that you can check them. Please do. Every answer links to the exact passage it used, at a permanent address you can cite and share.

Document review is a flag, not a verdict. When you upload a contract or an offer letter, the tool compares its text against constitutional provisions and points at clauses that may be unfair or unlawful. It does not know your facts, your local statutes, your case law, or your procedural deadlines, and it can miss things that a lawyer would catch immediately.

About the constitutional text

The constitutions on this site are transcribed from public documents — official constitutional texts, gazettes, and government publications — and each passage shows the source it came from. We do not claim any copyright over the text of the law itself.

The transcription is not official. It can contain errors, and it may be incomplete. At the time of writing the index holds 302 passages across 9 jurisdictions, and its structure is not perfectly uniform: some entries are single articles, some hold an entire chapter, and some have no article number recorded at all. Where the index does not record an article number, we say so instead of guessing. Where an entry is a whole chapter, we tell you that, because a passage of several thousand words is not the same thing as one section.

For anything that depends on the exact text — a court filing, a citation in an academic paper, a demand letter — verify the passage against the official gazette or the official version published by the government concerned. Our country pages name the source document for each passage.

About document review

When you upload a document for review, the text you send is processed to extract its contents and is analysed by an AI model. The document itself is not stored by us, but the extracted text is sent to our AI provider to be analysed, and the conversation records that you uploaded a file with that name. Read the privacy policy for the details, including which providers are involved.

Do not upload a document you are not entitled to share, and do not upload anything you would not want a third-party AI provider to process. If your document contains material you are legally obliged to keep confidential, this tool is not suitable for it.

The law is free, and stays free

The text of the law on Portable Lawyer is free and always will be. We do not charge for it, we do not paywall it, and we do not require an account to read it. You do not need to sign in to read a constitution, to search the corpus, or to open any provision. The full text is served openly to anyone, including at machine-readable addresses built for AI assistants and search engines, because a law that only some people can read is not much of a law.

Paid features, if we ever add any, would be for convenience and extra tooling — not for access to the text itself. Nothing on this site will ever put a constitutional provision behind a payment.

Independence

Portable Lawyer is independent. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for any government, ministry, court, police force, political party, or law firm. A passage appearing on this site does not mean any official body has reviewed or approved it.
